Skype is to show ads during conversations for users who haven't paid to use the Microsoft-owned service.

The Conversation Ads, as Skype is calling them, will show up during calls in the app window for users who don't have any credit in their accounts or a subscription of any kind. The ads will only be displayed during audio calls, not video.

Skype's vice president of advertising and monetisation, Sandhya Venkatachalam, claimed the ads will spark the users to have "meaningful conversations" about the product being marketed.

I do wonder what marketeers actually think people's responses to adverts actually are. If I see an advert, one of two things happens:

1. Nothing at all
2. I vow never to buy said company's products again due to the annoyingness / [LIFTED] of their advert. Halifax are by far and away the standout name on this list.
