Seems to confirm that we're looking at a 2014 release for the 'proper' next gen machines ;) :?

Big announcement at the next E3 maybe? Either way, they don't seem worried about Ninty :|

Expect the PS4 about a year after that then.

Especially since Sony stated " 'We've never been first. We've never been cheapest. It's about being the best'.

Of course if that's the case I can only hope that the rumours that the PS4 will be powered by an AMD Southern Islands chip are entirely false.

personally, I'd be amazed if we don't at least see the next xbox and playstation announced at next years E3. They probably won't ship very soon after, but another year only on PS3 and xbox will garner such a negative response I think it would damage them permanently.

I'd expect the xbox to ship worldwide at the same time but in contrast I think Sony mights tick to their habit of staggering launches around the world. Next Xbox for christmas 2013 everywhere, next playstation same time in the US but maybe the March after in the EU.

They just can't say when they're going to launch, because if they say they're going to launch next christmas, they'll kill their sales this christmas. So they have to do the reveal in the same calendar year as they ship. And they're (I assume) not ready for this christmas, so...

I'll be curious to see what the pricing is for the next gen, sites are listing the U for £280, which is quite something for a new console with such a controller. All things considered I mean, it just makes me wonder how much of a tech leap the other two will make in these times of austerity.

IIRC even MS only started making any money relatively recently, and we know what state Sony is in. I still wouldn't put it past them to repeat the mistakes of the PS3 though, they've certainly done it with the Vita - overpriced for the market and has a bunch of features that are next to pointless distractions for developers and consumers alike.

I've never owned a console, but I might gen a next gen xbox.
What ever year it comes out, I'm expecting it to be in store just in time for Christmas.

Oh good - as only got my PS3 at Xmas - and use it mainly as a BRay player and media streamer - only played one game on it as prefer PC's to play games as a keyboard / mouse sort of guy rather than a joypad
