It does nothing for me when I'm walking towards work...

Walking does two things at the very least. It provides exercise which for many people is a novelty, release endorphins etc, and it gets people out of the house and out of their mundane/boring routines of work then home then sleep and then back to work. I've had many patients where I've been able to avoid medication by getting them to do things like simple exercise, good diet, "selfish" time.

Ernie, it needs to be general walking. I don't count any part of a commute or anything during office hours.

It's over 4 miles total every day, 5 days a week, I'm not doing any more than that I can tell you ;)

Years back - well over a decade - when I had the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Post Viral Syndrome really badly, my doctor told me that walking might help with my mood. He also said that exercising would help me in my recovery anyway, so since then I’ve been walking pretty much every day. Around 30 minutes or so, and it has worked. Recently, though, I’ve not been as regular with my perambulations - for various reasons. I know I should, especially as I work from home and I rarely see much more than the house and immediate surroundings for most of the week.

I really must get back into the daily habit - but if you can see what the weather is up to right now, there’s little incentive. :(
