I still think that children should not have computers or TVs in their rooms. Call me old fashioned, but that’s how it would be here if there were children.

Even if they do have media in their rooms then that is the responsibility of the parents.

Children should be asleep before the adult channels even start broadcasting. I'd have a problem with a young kid watching any kind of TV that late at night, let alone unsupervised. And if we're talking about teenagers, then it's a different problem entirely.

As above, I'm against kids having TVs in their rooms. When I were a lad, there was only one TV and it was in the lounge. We couldn't watch anything inappropriate because our parents sould be there. Ditto with the computer - the family PC was also in an open area.

These days, kids have TV, computers and smartphones. Porn is far more readily accessible. I dread to think what it is doing to them.

The obvious question: Why are these channels being broadcast on Freeview if they have content that's illegal in the UK?

Put simply, it's because for the ones that are left their content isn't illegal in the UK. They stick to whatever OFCOM tell them to do, and a couple of the channels have had their licence to broadcast in the UK pulled for going even a toe's length over the line a couple of years back (could even have been the one mentioned) so they stick very carefully to what they're told is OK. And if they go over the line OFCOM stamp on them hard.

As ghas been suggested, in any case it's not the regulator's job to make all TV suitable for children. That's a ludicrous notion.

Frankly, I think anyone who uses the 'but children might see it' argument should automatically lose. It should be like censorship Godwin.

Completely agree - it's down to the parents.

Because they have paid for satellite transponders at Astra 28.2°E and have decided not to encrypt them.

• The broadcasters don't have to encrypt them
• The Freeview boxes are pretty dumb and usually just scan for unencrypted channels
• The broadcasts aren't subject to UK law as the content is Dutch and the satellites are Luxembourgish

Technically that's FreeSat, not FreeView. And given that needs a satellite feed run into wherever the decoder box is, I'd question anyone whose done that to their kid's bedroom even more than previously suggested.

Agreed, it is down to the parents. On all the boxes I've had, you can put a pin number on certain channels, so the parents just need to restrict "unsuitable" channels - as long as Cartoon Network doesn't become Naughty Nmypho Nuns after midnight, that wouldn't be a problem...

My first satellite box, back in '92-'93 had channel blocking, so it isn't new or rocket science. Parents need to take on their responsibilities and not leave it to the state to protect their children - that is what parents are for!

The girls don't have TVs in their rooms and I've blocked a lot of potential porn and illegal sites at the router level. Heck, we don't have a TV in our room either.

If cartoon network would show all my classic faves back to back, I'd probably lock it on that channel!

From every German satellite box I've ever seen every other channel is porn anyway

About 15%, I would guess... There are a fair few, but we have over 600 channels on our freesat, TV and Radio, but It isn't until you get well over 400 that the porn channels start to appear, and my TV tells me that nearly all of those require a decrypt card - to be honest, with 3 women in the house, looking over your shoulder when tuning the channels in, I didn't really pause to look and see if any were not blocked!
