The Pirate Bay has been sold and will be turned into a legal download service.

It said in the article that it was in the top 100 most visited sites, how long will that last now? There's loads of sites that you can get this sort of material legally, adding another one won't stop pirating, people will just move to other torrent sites.

Oh well, plenty of other places to go. When will these money-grabbing suits learn

End of an era!

These sites are ten-a-penny. Within a month of this news, traffic through the Pirate Bay will have bombed beyond recognition. When will the suits learn!

Admittedly, at least the company who bought it seem to be doing the right thing in creating new business models, even if they are wasting their money on the actual IP purchase.

Will all / most / much of the money raised go straight to the music industry to pay the fine?

With off-the-top-of-my-head numbers, it seemed like about half would cover the fine. The rest will presumably go a bit to the owners for their troubles and the rest to some kind of freedom of speech foundation thingy.

At least Sealand is being put to good use.... Personally I though the platform would make a good summer retreat if you fancied a bit of time on your own staring at Felixstowe and Harwich.

Out of interest, what do people use Pirate Bay for? I can't actually think of many legal downloads I could get from there that aren't available elsewhere......

The Pirates Bay is for kids and noobs. Stay away from public trackers, they are nothing but trouble. Go private...

You don't go there for legal downloads ;)

Private trackers require registration, so dead to me.
