Dell trying to jump on the bandwagon, once it has pulled away, again... |

I never really understood how people didn't 'get' netbooks - An underpowered laptop that allows you to connect to the Internet and be productive online. It all went wrong when people started saying "Hang on a minute, this really cheap computer I bought is a load of rubbish, I can't even play [INSERT GAME HERE] on it!". |

I'd have settled for it having enough screen real estate to view a website and enough power for the JavaScript and Flash not to make the browsing experience painful. The new smartphones have more screen realestate than a netbook and they can display the sites more fluidly. I've never really seen the point. They aren't as portable as a smartphone or tablet and they don't have the versatility of a fully fledged ultra portable. |

I love ours. Now tablets are out, they're becoming more obsolete, but a decent tablet is pricey. They're like minidiscs a transition thing. |

I use my netbook nearly every day - it's so much better than the laptop I was issued at work. As I've said many times before, the main things are the screen resolution and boot time. It has the same 1280x768 resolution on it's 7" screen as the Tosch does on 14", and it boots about 5 times faster partly due to the SSD. It even has better sound than the Tosch, and of course it weighs next to nothing so it's easy to carry about all day. I'd never go back to a full-sized laptop. They're just too cumbersome. |

It was only recently mine started slowing down, likely to be an XP problem at that. It's the form factor and it's price that's the selling point. |

They great if you use them for the right things. My netbook is just a surfer and was a bargain. I don't expect any more from it. If I need to do anything else then that's on my PC, TBH I don't see the point of laptops. |

My wife loves her netbook. For me though, there just aren't enough pixels on the screen. The slow CPU I could cope with, the constant scrolling on web pages I couldn't. |

This. Having said that, my youngest adores his netbook. The battery life is fantastic, and it handles the basic online flash-based kids games very well. |

I've not seen too many issues with people expecting to run stupid things on any of our netbooks, the problem is mostly people that buy entry level budget laptops (invariably at supermarkets) and then kick off that they aren't super speedy. A certain amount of 'expectation realignment' is generally required at this point. |

I should add to my above comments, my Toschiba is very bottom of the range. I had low expectations. Unfortunately my boss was of the opinion that the cheapest laptop is "more than good enough", even though it was worse than my netbook in every way possible. |
