Mesh Computers in administration ...

Another one bites the dust. :(

IIRC, they produced some pretty decent PCs. I know PCPro often had them in their pricepoint labs tests, although I cancelled my sub last year, so I couldn't say if they still made a regular appearance.

Not strictly relevant to my interests, as I've never bought a readymade PC, but it's sad to see the demise of a firm who had a knack of producing well made, good spec machines at a reasonable price.

Yes they made very good machines in the past. It has been some years since I had anything to do with a windows PC but they were always in the frame for a ready built machine.

This isn't news that surprises me.

From my own browsing I have come across endless numbers of people who have had problems with this company. I have no personal axe to grind having owned a Mesh over 10 years ago but tales of abysmal customer service and non delivery of ordered good tell their own story.

Customers ordering computers write to complain that they have been lied to about delivery dates, component shortages and other aspects of pc building. They then further complain that refunds are not forthcoming.

In my mind, a company that sells you a pc with an estimated delivery date of 14 days, takes cash on order, hasn't delivered after 6 weeks and cites lack of cpus, then motherboards, cases, failed QC and THEN takes up to 30 days to refund is a company where I wouldn't risk a single penny.

Yes.... sadly it seems that some jobs will be lost here but I sense that there will be many many people who won't be upset at their demise.

Incidentally, I was banned from their user forum site for agreeing with a cutomer complaining when his new pc arrived badly damaged in an undamaged box and a critical post of mine was deleted from the old PC Pro forum.

Well they should not be taking money until the goods are shipped. I would have complained to the bank about this.

Mesh reminds me of the computer companies back in the day - Carrera, Evesham Micros, Apricot, Gateway, Fountain, Viglen...I thought most of them had gone bust in the early noughties as part of the dot-com crash, with mesh too!

I thought Mesh had gone bust once already.

I'm surprised there are any left. After all us Mac users are always told how much cheaper it is to build your own PC than buy one and how it's the kind of task that a six year old could manage in an hour between episodes of Fireman Sam.

There are some left.

I've just taken delivery of a pretty stunning new machine built by pcspecialists. No delays in building or delivery, no excuses and, if you check their forums, no washing their hands of you once the order is placed and paid for.

I deal with Viglen on a pretty much daily basis at work. Our contact is because they provide notebooks for a lot of schools and councils, no idea if they still do their own desktops though.

I won't shed any tears.

They seemed to have had cashflow problems for some time now and loads of customer complaints.

Most PC vendors operate on wafer thin margins, so any problems impact very quickly.

We got a Mesh PC for my dad about 4 years ago. They ballsed up the delivery - it was delivered to me (in Peterborough) instead of my Dad (near Glasgow). Suffice to say I was less than impressed. My brother and I took it up with us when we visited for Christmas so there wasn't a totally catastrophic delay but still very irritating. The blanking plates on the PCI slots had no way to secure them so we had to find a screw when we needed to install a PCI card. It's been a fairly slow machine (subjectively) although I suspect that has more to do with cr@pware and Vista-32 than the underlying hardware.

Good riddance I say.

No love loss here either - and I've never bought one - simply suffered (by proxy) the ballaches my best mate had with his/them.
