London Underground drivers could strike on the day of the royal wedding in a row over bank holiday pay, union officials have warned.

Aslef has demanded triple pay and a day off in lieu for working on bank holidays.

Seriously, WTF? Triple pay AND a day off!? Most people I know get either time and a half, if they're really lucky double pay, or nothing extra at all for working bank holidays.

Why do these donkeys think they deserve triple pay?

To be fair, they have to both go forward AND stop. It's very stressful y'know.

We get double time at work for Bank Holidays.
To be fair, like bus drivers, they have the lives of hundreds of people passing through their hands everyday. And you're trusting the network to be actually working, so that those STOP signals are accurate.
Not sure it's a job I'd want to do, tbh,

I get a slightly inflated rate (an extra £1.60/hour) and a day in lieu.

The drivers want it and they'll be given most of it. It's constantly being said at work that the train driver unions are one of the last things that could bring the country to a standstill....

As most people will get either double time or time and a half and or a day in lieu I think that they are asking for way more than they deserve. Though they can get away with it because there are relatively few of them.

It would be inconvenient if they went on strike nationally. However I believe that wouldn't be legal; the LU drivers are somehow a separate group, so if they strike the rest can't strike as well - at least not without a separate vote and a legitimate grievance of their own.

LU drivers going on strike on their own won't bring the country to it's knees - I'm sure business will continue in say Aberdeen...

I don't get any change in pay. At most, a day off in lieu, and even for that I have to fight for it.

I take my metaphorical hat off to tube drivers. They need as much money and time off as can be spared. They do, after all, have an immensely skilled and dedicated job - the amount of concentration they must need to get that train down that tunnel at speed, getting it right in the middle every time with inches to spare.

I couldn't do it.

When I was at MBNA we had a choice on whether we worked bank holidays or not, and those that did got to choose between double time with a day in lieu or triple time. I considered that to be exceptionally generous. Requesting triple time plus a day in lieu (essentially quadruple pay) is just nuts.

I thought that train drivers were already compensated for working public holidays and unsociable hours by having up to 40 days annual leave.

Yes that is generous.

Errr, yes. The DLR is cab-less, but everything else is driven.
