The one billionth app, Bump created by Bump Technologies, was downloaded by Connor Mulcahey, age 13, of Weston, CT. As the grand prize winner of Apple’s one billion app countdown contest, Connor will receive a $10,000 iTunes gift card, an iPod touch, a Time Capsule and a MacBook Pro.

Visit the site...

Lucky sod, lucky to have an iPhone/iPod Touch at that age and to win the competition.

I doubt it, maybe 5 billion? Was their billion an American billion? Maybe Apple UK will hold a competition when they his a proper British billion...

Having thought about it, the guy didn't need an iPhone or an iPod Touch, just a computer running Windows or OS X and a copy of iTunes to access the iTunes store...

Also, I was under the impression that if you downloaded between the time they announced the competition and when the billionth app was downloaded, you'd get an entry into an incredibly large hat and your name would be pulled out at some stage, but the news on the Apple site seems to suggest that the guy downloaded app number one billion...

I've never used the appstore, but is there a counter? Something like "123,456,789 Apps downloaded!!"? Or am I wrong?

I have more than 10,000 tracks in iTunes, nearly all paid for (mostly on CD/vinyl), so it is possible, will just take a bit of time. You could also spend it on TV shows, movies or even more iPhone/iPod touch apps.

Personally I’d love (another) $10,000 to spend; there’s thousands upon thousands of records to be discovered…
