Developers only release, it would seem.

Yep, saw that on Friday... Seems a little silly to announce it, but advise people not to download it.

That said, I don't see that it will offer anything over Safari at the moment. It uses the same base WebKit, but doesn't include the latest security patches and the new Safari includes a JavaScript JIT compiler, like Chrome, so the speed advantage will disappear.

On Windows, it is lighter than Safari, but I can't see it gaining much popularity on OS X... :?

It will only get popularity if Google’s apps start requiring it. At the moment, there is nothing that I’ve read about that makes me feel that I need Chrome.

From what I've read Chrome should be really nice to use. I hate current web browsers, they are so buggy and unstable (after 20 or 30+ tabs), and I've noticed oddities on 'web 2.0' sites such as Facebook.

Chrome will hopefully provide a more stable platform for the current and future generation of the web.

EDIT:
Woah, look what firefox does what you don't close it down!!!

Well that will really depend on how well the web site you are looking at is written. If its crap code ( so it will work with IE 6 or 7 ) then the chances of Chrome / FF making a good job of rendering it is not good to be honest. Sad to say but true.

Which version and how long is that Ben? I haven't had any problems with the 3.0 series on Windows or OS X - had it open all day here, I guess around 200 tabs, and it is using 112MB. But I don't tend to leave it running for 3 or 4 days without a break these days...

I'm on FF 3.0.10 and it grabs 50% of CPU then crash's 3 or 4 times a day its awful. Fully patched XP.

Looking at the logs (it's not my firefox process), it's been running for about two months and is Firefox 3, not sure what updates...
My point being, if things are moving more and more to the web, then this sort of usage could become common, and those stats are unacceptable IMO.

Alun, the page might crash, but it shouldn't affect other pages/tabs.

Its taking the entire app out that's the strange thing.

It's well known that FireFox is a hog. 2 was particularly bad. Good to hear that 3 is better, I only open it when I want to test something or if a site requires it.

I won't be going anywhere near Chrome if Google themselves say it's awful!

No doubt it will be stable enough to give it a bash in six months or so, and I'll take a look then. :)

Most of the crashes in Firefox are created with poor add-ins or corrupted profiles.

It might be worth removing any add-ins and / or trying an alternate profile.

Start Firefox with the -P command line option:

Mozilla KB on profile switching
