Seems reasonable to me TBH. Since credit companies charge (typically) 3% of the transaction and debit cards (typically) cost 25 pence to process I don't see why the council shouldn't recover these costs - it's not like they're charging over the odds. Of course if you don't like it and want to piss off your local authority, you can pay all your bills in £1 coins (they can refuse smaller denominations). |

Not if you have a business account. They then charge for cash in and out! As for credit card charges, when the CC companies are making 20% per year if you don't pay off in full a business owner is bound to be annoyed at paying to the card company. this is the credit crunch. Lots of companies have been doing this for years. |

they are making a lot more than that. They get the funding from the Bank of England at 0% so will make a profit no matter what. The only risk they have is that you do not pay back. |
