I think that the scheme has made schools lazy and risk averse. So what about plumbers? Would they need a CRB to fix a boiler? Or Glazier to fix a broken window? These people may come into contact with kids if doing the work during school hours, and called to fix a problem. Common sense is needed.

They would be supervised. That's the thing - you don't have to have a CRB check. All that means is that you can not be left alone with children.

That is fine. So why do people who go to schools need to be CRB checked if they are not left alone with children? It is not relevant to me, but I do find it absurd.
