In theory, yes, but in theory anything is possible. In theory I could follow you down the street from your house and watch everything you do. If you really think anyone in the world has the slightest, tiniest bit of interest in hacking someone's MobileMe account just to follow around a circle on Google Maps to know where they might be then you really are a little on the paranoid side of the ledger.

Anything is possible, but why make it easier for people? I guess I can just see this as further stealth proliferation of tracking technology throughout society.

The government and your mobile phone company can already tell where you care using triangulation of your 'phone signal. The only way to avoid it is to not have one.

Why not? The benefits - in this case the ability to find your own phone - far outweigh the risks - the possibility that someone, might, possibly hack your MobileMe account to find your phone.

If you take that approach you shouldn't use the telephone (someone might be listening); or a plastic card (your transactions are tracked); or walk down the street (you could be followed on CCTV).

In fact, it's probably best if you just move to a shack in the woods.

Yes they can, but it's not currently easy for anyone to hack some account to give my info. Also, triangulation is no where near as accurate as GPS.

Anyway whatever, I'm clearly the only person who doesn't think this is great news. I choose some risks, as otherwise you're right, I'd need to be a hermit. I just find it interesting how the majority of people see this risk as a great new feature and don't recognise any potential pitfalls.

"We ate at a pleasantly sketchy dive bar in uptown Chicago, where the food was mediocre and the characters were questionable," explains LiveJournal user, HappyWaffle. "I definitely had my iPhone while at our table, and I definitely did not have it when we were 100 feet down the street."

Please, please tell me the people who buy iPhones generally don't think or talk like that
