Here’s how you will be affected by the new car tax rules
http://metro.co.uk/2017/01/15/heres-how ... s-6382182/

George Osborne's parting shot! Worth bearing in mind if you're thinking of buying a new car very soon, buy it after April and - unless it's zero emissions - you'll be paying at least £140 a year, some far more.

Currently I pay no road tax on my 3-year old diesel Renault, but under new rules it would be £140 if I bought the exact same model brand new after 1st April. That's quite a hike.

I think I'm paying £140 now, but it's a 14 year-old car and I don't know how much longer I'll be keeping it, so this new tax system is certainly something to keep in mind - but I suspect I'll be buying second-hand when I come to replace my car and as long as it was manufactured before 01/04/'17 then I'll still be using the old rules.

Sadly, I suspect this will also up the price of second hand cars, simply because new cars will get more expensive, and therefore demand for good second hand cars will increase.

Pretty sure I pay way more than that for my thirteen year old 1.6 petrol.
