Since the smoking ban, domestic violence has sky rocketed. Simply people drink more at home where they can smoke too, and some like to hit their partner or what have you. The other thing is, more people staying in to drink because they can't smoke at the pub (or don't want to hang about in the doorway smoking) also are subjecting their kids to the effects of passive smoking.
