This sequence just popped up in a magazine I read, and I've managed to track it down online at last -

More drag racing goodness. As a motorsport, I can really see the appeal - action, long straights for those gorgeous DoF shots I love, cars that really lend themselves to the same technique, and the ever present potential for something erupting into flame and going sideways.

I'm loving this shot:

Sports often require fast shutter speeds.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

It probably wasn't terribly well lit in there either.

I always found drag racing boring. Straights, over in under 9 seconds...

If a car can't corner at high speed, I'm not interested. ;)

I kinda know what you mean, but it's the noise and sheer spectacle that's the amazing thing. And once you get into the more techy aspects, I find it fascinating.
I'd still watch Formula 1 over a drag race, but for pure theatre, my money's with the drags.

Re. the ISO setting - he could've dropped it and lowered the shutter speed, I reckon. That would've been my approach. But only because my camera isn't worth 4 figures and gets noisy at about 1600. ;)

My last camera I would have never strayed into the higher ISO and used a flash (Emily's portraits last year). It was horribly noisy. The new camera (K5) is insanely good at high ISO to the point where I'd have no problem shooting ISO6400. It's yummy :D
