Post subject:  A particular type of head. A little help?

Hi.

I am looking for a specific type of tripod head which should be relatively cheap to make and, IMHO, relatively cheap to buy, but I can't find one.

I saw one of these at an air show last year, so it does exist, but if it can't be bought, then it must be home made. I have a good idea of how I can make it, but if anyone knows of any on-line instructions, it would save me some time.

The advantage of this head is that it supports the weight of the lens below the level of the pivots, and if the weight is central over the horizontal bar, then it can be quickly and easily moved, so as to follow an aircraft across the sky, for example.

This is my drawing of it.

Thanks for any help.

Like this?

First thought that came to mind was cradle. So I searched for tripod head cradle, and that was one of the results.

That'd be the one.

All I had done so far was to look at tripod heads from a number of stores, and I hadn't found it anywhere.

Which, I might add, is very weird as they have it in Warehouse Express- the first place I looked the other day.

I don't know what to say. It must be my age. :?

Thanks for that.

I was about to start looking using terms such as "aircraft", which, funnily enough, hadn't occurred to me until now. I don't know if that would have done it, but it did seem ideal to me when I saw it in use last year.
