Post subject:  Old flash on a new camera?

Hi,

I've done a bit of research on the Interwebz, but haven't found a definitive answer and was hoping that you might be able to give me a yes or no answer...

I was rummaging through the carp cupboard and founf a Cobra MD210 flash, and was wondering whether I could use this with my D90.

The reason I'm interested in finding out, (if anyone cares!) is that it's got some coloured filters and a swivel head, and I'd really like to see what effects these would make on my photos, but obviously if it's going to risk knackering my shiny new camera I'd rather not...

Any thoughts?

Thanks

:)

I don't know anything myself but I have heard that old flashes on new cameras can be a bad thing. Best to check further or wait until someone else canhelp.

Rather pointless post. :P

I tried an old flash on my Canon.

There was no communication via the hot shoe, and didn't cause any damage to either unit that I could see. Pity it didn't work, though, because I'm not about to fork over a three-figure sum to get an external flash unit now.

I had a Cobra flash for my Canon 35mm SLR, but it wouldn't work with my DSLR. As with Heather's, there was no damage done.

Problem solved. I think. I popped into the real camera shop and bought an off camera adapter for a fiver... it is activated by the camera flash, and I can't wait to give it a try... I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks everyone. :D
