No, sorry, that's just a phone. No matter how many gigamegapixels it has, it's a communication device. We're talking proper grown up cameras in this section. Of course, you may well take stonking pictures with your phone, in which case you can join in the photo comp in the Meeting Place. |

I didn't mention filters and whatnot, but since everyone else is... I'm a long-time Cokin user, so I have various mounts for different lens sizes, grey ND grad filter, brown grad filter, circular polariser and close-up lenses of 1x, 2x and 3x diopter. There's also a vacuum beanbag, which is rather clever in you can position the bag, drop the camera on it and suck all the air out to lock the bag in place. I also acquired an angle finder doodad which clips over the viewfinder to give me a chance to look into the camera from different positions. It also lets me magnify the viewfinder by 2x for critical focus. |

Lol, I know, it was posted in a joking sense Also have some utterly useless Samsung Digimax S800, drains batteries in about 15 mins. *sigh* If I want to take a pretty decent photo though, I'll usually borrow my mum's Cannon Eos something or other...don't even know if I go the right brand |

Right I got a Canon 450D with it's standard lens Ef-s 55-250 ef-s 70-300 IS and due to my brother's recommendation a Sigma 70-300 with APO macro which runs across the 70-300 only paid £80 for it and a little Tamron 55-200 again with full macro paid £70 for it must admit i do use these two lens more than the canon ones |

I'm going to upgrade my phone next month and was suprised to read in several reviews that the Sony Ericsson C905 is the first phone that could realistically replace your standard point and shoot compact camera. Might be worth a punt as I dont have a point and shoot atm. They've even designed it to look more like a camera than a phone. I suppose its not going to touch the quality of something like a Canon Ixus 990 or Fuji F200EXR but it would save me buying a sub £200 compact. |

I originally got interested in photography in university as I took a module in it for my degree. After Leaving Uni. I bought me my first (and only) film camera - a Pentax (I'll update this post with model and lens when I get home). After that, and not really using it much at all, I got me a Nikon CoolPix 5700 with a fisheye converter. The camera died not long ago but I still have the lens. Before the death of the CoolPix I bought my current DSLR. I'm actually quite proud to say that I was one of the very first people in Northern Ireland to have this camera. When I was ordering it I rang around all the major (as well as semi-major) chain and independent camera retailers and couldn't find any of them that would have stock within six months. I had to order from a mainland retailer who shipped to me earlier than expected because another customer cancelled their order. Since then I've been slowly adding to the set-up listed below
Nikkor DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 (which I'm looking at selling) Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 Nikkor 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6 8GB Lexar UDMA CF card 8GB SanDisk Extreme IV CF card Giottos MT9242 Classic Pro Alu Tripod & MH 7303 Fluid Head Tamrac Expedition 5 camera bag (rucksack style) I'm looking to add a 16GB Lexar UDMA compact flash card and a 200mm macro lens to that equipment next. The card may be happening soon, the lens, not so soon. Mark |

Unlikely, unless it: a) Shoots in RAW 2 - Gives full DSLR like control over aperture, shutter speed III; has image stabilisation iv: can have additions like flash guns added The problem with mobile phones is that the optics are so poor, it doesn’t matter how many megapixels you throw at it. Remember, kiddies - your mobile phone is not a camera. It just happens to take pictures. |

I think the key phrase was "point and shoot". Last I checked there aren't many of them that adhere to the criteria you're imposing. I agree, phone cameras are always a step behind proper digital compacts, but there are a few that do the job remarkable well (unfortunately mine isn't one of them). I remember leeds_manc getting some rather tidy results from his Sony Ericsson model, before investing in his D40. It seems perfectly plausible to me that phones at the higher end of the market now feature cameras that can take a fairly respectable picture. |

It's like needing a flash gun, I simply can't justify the price of one for all the time that I'd actually need/use it. I'd far rather save the money and get the lenses that I would use on a more regular basis. Mark |

Probably a good choice. Filters are remarkably expensive for what they are. I do really like my ND Grad filter though. It gets plenty of use. I'm sure its easy enough, but I wouldn't know how to replicate the effect in photoshop to an acceptable standard. |

My ND grad gets a fair bit of use, too. I'm reliably informed there's a software variant in LightRoom 2 which replicates the effect quite well. |
