I know Ollie covered this a bit in his "focus" thread, but I thought this might be worth posting in a new thread for anyone looking around for tripods and the like. http://digital-photography-school.com/s ... to-tripods

I'm starting to think my tripod's a bit too annoyingly heavy. Can't afford to replace it though. Oh well!

Top tip - a bit of female velcro on the tripod and male velcro on your cable release. No need to hold the release for hours... well seconds... Al

Here is the kit used to mount cameras to a car, as used by my Crossfire driving friend. http://www.b-hague.co.uk/hague_suction_ ... sm8kit.htm

Wouldn't using female velcro on the release be more comfortable to hold?

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Depends. You will only be holding the release for a short while and I just thought the female velcro on the tripod would be less likely to catch when setting up or carrying it? Al

The article linked to mentions some tripod brands with links to Amazon.com. I just wanted to give a shout out for a couple more brands available in the UK who make some pretty decent stuff too: GiottosVanguard (TIPA award winner)
