I think this did the rounds in January, and the system featured on the BBC a while back.

Basically, it's a standard high end compact camera (I believe they used a Canon PowerShot G10) mounted on the robotic bit. The result is loads of single images which have to tiled and stitched together to make the much larger image.

Pretty cool for landscape stuff I'd think, but not much use for anything like a football match or an event where lots of things move quickly.
