Some of you may remember that I work at a holiday resort. I have 26 acres of estate and 40 Scandinavian style lodges to photograph, along with the manor house maybe. A mate of mine's kid is a total genius and he's only 16. He's really creative and is looking for ways to use his talent. I've offered for him to come over here and take some shots for my website. He has a decent camera and several different lens, plus two flashes. I really like what I've seen in the past year or two and he has a knack for capturing shots that are a little different.

I've told him he can come take photos, then if the estate manager likes them (my Dad) we'll buy them off him - Peter Parker style. So what's a reasonable price?

It all depends on how you wish to use the images.

Mark

EDIT - What I mean is, are you exclusively going to use them on a website? If so the homepage of the domain? What about other, printed promotional material?
If there's lots of images going to be used it may be better to simply give a flat fee for the work done. Who gets copyright of the images and do you get an exclusive licence on the work you want to use?

Thanks Mark. I suppose the company will want the copyright. The images will probably just be for the web, rather than any print stuff. It's only really to spruce up the site with newer, fresher images of our lodges and the estate. So people can get a better feel for what it's like here. But I want it to be something he can use for a portfolio etc. in case he wants to get into it at college or whatever.

That adds to the cost quite considerably.
I know you're probably not the most flush company in the world but make him a proper, fair offer for what you consider the images will bring to the company and I'm sure a deal can be struck.

Thing is, he'd do it for free if I asked him nicely. I just wondered whether say £20 is a kick in the nuts, is £50 about right, or whatever? He's never been paid for any work before. Assuming the images are good, I just want to be compensated. What would a normal 16yr old get paid for a Saturday job?

About £35 quid just working in a shop. If the images are good and can be used I would say £100.

Would he maybe accept a free holiday and a bit of spending money for his efforts?
