Post subject:  Recommend a camcorder.

Not knowing much about camcorders, I thought I'd ask for recommendations here.
I need to buy one as my normal camera has died, plus we wanted one anyway.
My requirements are:
1) Must be HDD
2) Must be 1080 as we plan to get a HDTV next year.
3) Must be able to take still photos as I don't want to buy a separate camera.

I've been looking at the Sony HDRXR200VE on Amazon for £686, though I'm slightly worried about the battery life.
My maximum budget is £700, though cheaper would be better.

Any ideas?

Saw an advert for Sanyo 'dual' cameras recently. Their website says this:

Xacti Dual Cameras expand your shooting range by combining the video abilities of a camcorder with the photo-capture abilities of a digital camera. In your choice of a horizontal or vertical design, a Dual Camera offers comfortable one-handed shooting and the ability to switch modes with a single thumb-press of the Photo or Video button. At the top of the range, full HD models record high-definition 1080p videos that look spectacular played back on a connected wide-screen display. All Dual Camera models feature powerful zoom and sequential shooting functions, while some models are fully waterproofed for extended underwater recording. Xacti Dual Cameras by SANYO—one is all you need.

VPC-FH1 is full HD, etc etc

or the 'upright' VPC-HD2000

Both under £500
