Has anyone ever done any time lapse photography using a stills camera? I'm thinking of doing some with a mate and creating a nice little video out of it. Mark |

I want to have a play. I can't think of a decent subject just yet, though. I quite fancy having a go at one of those speeded up cloud formations, mind. |

I'm currently reading up on it all and I'll post back here with anything I come up with. Mark |

I think what's stopping me is, because I'm a cheapskate, I don't want to spend out on gubbins to control the camera over an extended period. This means I would have to sit and manually trip the shutter over a period of some hours to get something worthwhile. I think a stop motion animation like Paul's done might be simpler. If I find a loose few minutes over Christmas I might have a tinker. |

My camera has this capability in-built, so it's not something I'll have to worry about. Mark |

With you all being mac users, you'll want to give this a try http://www.sofortbildapp.com/ It is free, works with my D80 over USB and it is quite excellent. Make sure you set your camera to mtp and you're set. Going to try some on the weekend. |

That's no good, Gav. It doesn't support proper cameras. ![]() ![]() |

Yes it does, it just doesn't support those toys made by Nikon's main rival... ![]() |

I think mine has too actually. I might have to have a little look into this. |

My very first video camera had this too. I bought it because it would do stop frame animation. It could also take a couple of frames every 30 seconds, which was a lot of fun. If you are handy with AppleScript, you can access the iSight API via a free command line tool (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/18598). You could write some AppleScript which would take a picture every n seconds and save in a folder using sequential file names. You could then use QuickTime Pro to produce a movie. This will do the magic in AppleScript for you:

Might be good to do a time lapse of a xmas tree dropping it's needles. |

Last night me and a mate shot and edited a little time lapse film. It was never intended as anything other than a technical test for other ideas we have, that's why I wasn't at all bothered about not cleaning my lenses properly before we started it. We thought it was just going to be seen by us two, but as it developed we realised that it was actually good enough to stick up on the 'net. We had fun doing this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4_WimM4ALo Mark |
