I've mentioned the Martin Bailey Photography podcast before, but this latest edition popped into iTunes today.

Clicky to the MBP podcast web site page for this show.

I have to admit to not having listened yet, but anyone interested in long exposure work should listen and learn.

Just had a listen :D

I think my next purchase will defo be a tripod.

Following my experience yesterday and having done quite a bit of long exposure stuff and loving it.

I'd also REALLY love to get a wide (10-20mm) lens. I just need to win the lottery first.

I love doing long exposure stuff. B&W make a 10-stop filter, ideal for taking 3 minute exposures in broad daylight. You can get some crazy effects with them, especially if you head into an urban area, a high street etc. They're pricey for wide lenses (77mm), but on a stock 18-55mm with a 52mm thread it's only £35!

Beaches are good fun though, but difficult if you have an onshore breeze! You have to watch the spray on the lens.

My photo comp entry last month was an 8 second exposure with a ND4 filter (a cheap one!) required to get the exposure I wanted. It was a bit trial and error but I really enjoyed the process. I'd just like to invest in a sturdier tripod now, as the one I've got isn't great, and practice the method some more.

I also had to use the timer on the camera as pressing the shutter release is likely to cause some camera movement and I dont have a wired remote. I once bought a cheap wireless one on eBay that did the job but the batteries ran out!
