Just seen thisabout a photographer of the year competition on the BBC. Any thoughts?

As Gav said elsewhere, it is more like Photoshopper of the Year.

It all looks a bit HDR to me.

I'm not a great fan of HDR, although when it's done well it can be amazing. Usually it seems to be adopted as a way of salvaging an otherwise rubbish image.

You're not alone. IMHO I find many HDR shots "overdone", as if the heavy HDR *was* the shot. Shame really as I'm sure when used as a subtle tool it can be pleasing. Still, that's just me; beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I like some HDR stuff. Black & White Photography's present issue is all about HDR portraiture, and it works really nicely with the right subject.
Too often though, you see it being used for it's own sake, and I'm a little bored of that.
