I suppose a shot like needs a tripod and possibly a remote.

You say the missus took it, are you suggesting that if she can, I should be able to as well?

The first was taken on a tripod, probably on a cable release, the second was hand held, IIRC. I took 2 stabs at it, the first was the cleanest. :)

I think if you're able to get all the functions of a camera and have patience yes, she was a photographic trainer for the MacDonalds of photography Olan Mills until the directors got helicopters on expenses (and that's not a joke) she loves photography but was never too happy there, too commercial.

When I was younger, I could take a 1-2 second exposure hand held, but these days I can't seem to hold it steady for long enough... One of the problems of getting old, I guess. :(

Simple tip - bit of string. Tie one end to the lens, and the other end to your foot. Pull taught. Apparently, it can be as good as a tripod for stability.

You can also get some very good lightweight monopods that fold down to virtually nothing. Some even have mini tripod feet.
