Need a 6x4 done of one of my photos and need it by Thursday LATEST. Haven't made a print since my film days 20 years ago, so no idea what's the done thing these days. Does it have to be online or does anybody do it on the high street?

Needless to say I want EPIC quality :D

Really? I thought Jessops had shut down. Snappy Snaps may be able to - but with a caveat. Last time I took a film to them for processing, it came back with a lot of marks on the negative - ones which were not consistent with the camera’s usual transport marks.

Truprint will do it, and it'll be ok.
Or, you can email me and I'll have a word with the large format Epson printer at work, see if we can't work something out.

I thought that some of the stores had been bought by one of the dragons den.

They are still trading here is the store finder.

My local Jessops closed. Fortunately, a friend with access to commercial facilities has very kindly obliged. Very happy with the results :D

Does beg the question though. All of these online places seem to want 7 days. It never used to take that long with film

Years ago it was a week, then a few places did on the premises one hour processing, and then everyone started to offer better times. I suspect that the online developers can do it quickly but it is the post office and the actual delivery that can force them to put in a longer period to make sure that they actually meet the one week delivery promise.

Snappy Snaps used to be able to run b&W film through their developers on the premises, and so could get prints done in an hour. Last time, they said they had to send it away as they no longer handled black and white film locally.

I may at some point bite the bullet and buy a film developing kit. I don't need prints - I'll just scan the negatives and use those.

When I did work experience in a camera shop (1997!) the only thing that created waiting time was volume of negs and people waiting.

Tesco say you can pick your prints up in store, so why do I have to wait 7 days?

That said, you're probably right, it'll be down to post etc. What I find incredible in this day and age is that a DPD delivery can be as little as FREE to me and have a text with a timed delivery the next day. And yet Amazon want £8 for Royal Mail next day for a tiny little lens filter. Gay.

I have always suspected that Amazon deliberately hold stuff back to get people willing to pay extra for the delivery. There might be a lot more profit from the premium delivery than from normal sales.

I can still get colour negs done in about 30 minutes on the high street.
I can do my own B&W stuff at work, that takes about 20-30 mins to process and then a couple of hours for them to dry.
