Free desktop software (or £6 for the iOS app) that shows the exact direction of light and the times of sunrise/sunset/moonrise/moonset. Useful for "golden hour" photos.

Might be helpful for those who like outdoor photography.

I tend to have a quick look as a planning exercise on occasion. However I find a weather forecast more useful.

Saying that, if I had a tablet I would probably use this and others, such as stellarium, much more in the field.

I stumbled across it whilst reading a photography book (Stunning Digital Photography). With daylight increasing and hopefully the weather will improve for outdoor shots, it'd be a useful tool. I just wish it wasn't so expensive for the iOS - at £2-3, I'd have had a punt on it but at it's current cost, it would have to be justified and I wouldn't use it enough.

It doesn't look very complicated. It just draws a line on a map to show you where the sun (and moon) comes from? There must be more to it than that surely?

Would something like Google Maps in conjunction with http://www.susdesign.com/sunangle/ not be as useful for planning when you want to be somewhere, since you're unlikely to use it that often?

I use LightTrac on the iPad, which I think is £3 in the iTunes Store.
