There will be restrictions on certain types of 'professional' and 'interchangeable lens' cameras at venues. And of the course just to muddy the waters the restrictions will be based on the venue.

So a little contradiction perhaps when the official book suggests using 200-300mm lenses, and one shot apparently is taken with a 400mm lens.

As an official sponsor, I wonder how the Panasonic range fits into all of this. ;)

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I await the inevitable arrest of a photographer who is taking pictures in a public area.

I'd be more shocked if this didn't happen.

Are the Olympic sites public?

They bloody well should be.

No they're under military control, with Ronald McDonald in command.

What was the quote I heard this morning.. something like

'They've produced a London 2012 version of Monopoly. You can't stop on half the squares, the hotels are four times as expensive and every other square is a McDonalds'

You pay to get in. They are private sites.

Does this mean I should avoid taking my D90 with 300mm lens to Old Trafford for the football quarter finals?

What it means is that there is no clear definition of what will be accepted/refused entry. I doubt they will offer secure storage so I guess some people will be missing events.

I read elsewhere that storage of any kind wouldn't be provided, so if you take stuff with you that they don't allow you're pretty much screwed.

I suspect they think the storage facility itself would be a point of vulnerability i.e. have a bomb disguised to look like something they won't let in, it gets left in the storage facility, at some point later <BOOM>.

Given this morning's radio coverage though, by the looks of things all you have to do is make sure you're checked through by G4S rather than the police, and you can get through with pretty much anything...
