Got a relative who suggested they were thinking of buying an SLR. Seemed quite a lot of money for them to spend on it to me, and I was thinking they'd probably do better with a bridge camera. Something in the £100-£200 range maybe with a half decent lens and some reasonable control over the image above what the 'point and shoot' brigade manage.

The thing is... I'm not sure what to recommend. If It was SLR's we'd be down to the standard canon/nikon but in bridges I'm not so well up to speed. I assume Canon & Nikon will still be good? Maybe throw in Sony and Fuji as well? Any particular mmodels that are getting rave reviews?

IIRC both Panasonic Lumix and Fuji HS series are pretty goot too.

Pana FZ-100 is somewhere in that price range. Sensor's ok. The intelligent auto mode takes great pics and the Leica optics are even better than on their compacts.
