I saw this about a year ago and thought "yeah right, maybe in ten year's time".

I was wrong, it is now available to buy!!!!!!

OMG, this is my next camera!

You realise the sensor is currently not much better than the sensors in cameras from a decade or more ago? 1.3MP or so, I believe.

Interesting technology, though, but it's not something that interests me. I suspect other manufacturers will be looking to licence the tech for future generation point-and-shoot cameras.

We've talked about this before here.
The results I've seen so far aren't terribly impressive at the moment, and for the quality the file sizes are a bit big.

I guess that is because of the amount of RAW data. Would the images be flattened once the user has found the focus they want, or would they keep the original file to play around with at a later time?

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Raytrix have been selling light field cameras for several years, although mainly for industrial uses. The light field properties also allow the higher end cameras (20,000€+) to generate 3D models from the images they have photographed.

They are used a lot in the auto inudstry for quality checking.

The R29 has a resolution of 7.3 megapixels and can make 100 layers. It can also use standard Nikon F-Mount lenses.
