Here are two pics taken with my iPhone 3GS. The touch to focus works nicely, if a little slowly, but note also the difference in exposure. For the first one I tapped on the reflected highlight on the desk, and for the second, on the shade side of the mug. I have to admit to being impressed!

I'd be more impressed if the mug wasn't of such a poo team. (8+p

Well what do you expect from a 'phone?
You want perfectly exposed images = get a proper camera.

You'd still get the from a proper camera using spot metering.

What's the result by metering against the mid tones on the table?

I just posted it as a curiosity, nothing more. I don't have equivalent lighting conditions now (it was overcast when I took that) so I can't do any meaningful comparisons. I just found it interesting that I was able to select the area of exposure on a camera phone.

I think complaining about the poor quality of pictures on a camera phone is like complaining about the poor quality of wrapping paper in a newspaper.

Was trying to use the camera on my Sony Ericsson today.
It's just rubbish. It makes the shutter noise, then quits and returns me to the Application menu.
No picture.
Tried switching the phone on and off about 3 times, removing the battery, and it's still not working.
Say what you will about the iPhone camera - it's more functional than the one on mine at the moment.
