Not an insignificant little Nikon at that eh? Of course, if you're ever in the vicinity, feel free to get in touch and let me play with yours *leaves window open for innuendo*

I bet you drive a Volvo as well? :D

His 5D MkII attacked me in Manchester.

Yeah, let's be clear here: you bought the Nikon BEFORE playing with my 5D Mark II, not as a direct result!

I think that was the underlying reason of the attack.

Anyone else got a Sandisk Extreme firewire card reader? Is it normal for the wee blue light to stay on after the computer has shut down?
I know it's powered via the firewire port but I was assuming this would power down when the machine was off

Also, has anyone ever managed to get the free download of RescuePro you get with Sandisk extreme series memory cards to work? The serial numbers that came with the memory cards come up as invalid when I try entering them or obtaining an activation code.

I bought two SanDisk cards recently, so I have two activation codes - I only need one, so I'd guess you could have the other and see if that works. I had no trouble with mine, FWIW.

Thanks for the offer Prof but Rescue Pro problem solved. Turns out I can't type in a url/spell properly. (/rescurepro) Doh!

Was in John Lewis yesterday have a shot of an EOS 50D. NICE. Felt very good in the hand and it didn't take me long to work out most of the basic controls either.
Shame it was fitted with a CF card that could only hold about 2 photos on it. What's the point is supplying a 32MB card with a DLSR?
Roll on pay day!

Well, it looks like the rumours of a canon announcement this week weren't too far removed from the truth:

Canon EOS 550D

That's the camera I wanted at the end of last year.
Although it would have been too pricey.

I still want the 7D, but I'm waiting to see what the street price of the 550D comes down to. Currently, the RRP is a straight dollar for pound swap, which is unacceptable. $800 comes in around the £600 mark at the mo, so even allowing the VAT £800 body only is way off the mark in my opinion.

But it's not full-frame.
I think Canon missed a real opportunity here to really capture the market for mid-range VDSLRs.

The 550D is essentially a baby 7D. If I wanted a 7D before yesterday I wouldn't now be wavering towards a compromise purchase of a 550D.
Stick to your guns and get the 7D when you can.
