I’d like one of those mugs too. What I’m NOT going to do is hollow out my lens to drink tea out of it.

Sony do lenses that colour too. I agree -it’s a bloody silly colour to make a pro lens.

You can get camouflage sleeves for them. If natural history photography is your bag, a light coloured lens is the last thing you want - it puts the wildlife off.

There is this item on eBay should you wish to spend £28 upwards on a mug.

I think coffee out of a Nikon one would taste better. I presume the coffee would certainly be sharper, with more colour and less speckles.

Who wants coffee with more colour? Surely black, (or brown) is sufficient?

I thought the white colouring was something to do with reflecting heat when being used in direct sunlight at sporting events.

There's probably some truth to this. I'd also wonder if by making them white the lenses become instantly recognisable and do no harm to the 'brand' when seeing many all across football stadia and the like.

Paul - the Sony 80-400 is silver.

Mark - quite correct, and it works. A few of the lads were in America recently and the only lenses that would work in the heat were the Canon white ones. Nikons and Sigmas in particular were prone to the heat and wouldn't autofocus. The chaps with dark lenses had to focus manually which was really no problem given the amount of light around.
