What personal experience do you have of this? My D90 is lower spec than the cameras you're considering and I've very rarely filled the buffer. When I have it hasn't been an issue. If I thought it would be an issue I would reduce the number of shots I took per burst and try to make a better job of framing etc.

I wouldn't mind one of those myself. Great for diving!

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

None Matt. But I've read a bunch of reviews and more than that I've watched videos of it in action and they all confirm the buffer is tiny. Whereas the 7D will go on forever essentially, providing you have a quick card.

Am I asking for trouble buying from Denmark? It's possible I might be able to get 15-20% discount on UK prices by getting my friend to purchase for me and send it here. As there's no duty within the EU (AFAIK) could be a winner.

Would you do it?

Be wary. HMRC might decide to levy the VAT on it anyway. You may need to check out the small print on the warranty. It shouldn't be a problem, but it's worth being aware of potential issues should repair be required under warranty.

I've a feeling your warranty would only be valid in Denmark, if you're worried about that.

Not sure how it is now, but when I bought my camera the body only had a local warranty and the lens full international. I took the risk and bought it in Singapore, three years ago, for less money than I see it advertised for now in the UK.

Arranged a trip to Jessops tomorrow as one of the guys who works there is going to bring in his 7D for me to look at. I've also managed to find a staunch Nikon guy with a shop who does lots of bird photos.

Is everybody sick of me, or can I ask more questions?

You carry on. :)

Glad you've found someone who can demo kit for you.

Of course we're sick of you! When has that ever stopped you from asking questions though?!? (8+D

Well, I thought I might give you all a break....

....especially you!

1) On the D7000 / K5 am I gonna notice improved low-light/noise performance and better big prints purely from having a bigger sensor than any small Canon?
2) The more reading I've done in the past couple of days, I seem to be coming up against a pattern in reviews. IQ with Nikon is "better", as is handling; but AF and speed are "better" on Canon (which seems to be true of the latest 1D vs D4). Does this sound familiar, or have none of you used both? Or am I reading the wrong reviews?

It's not that simple (when is it ever?).
I don't know how good the Pentax is at the noise control on high ISO images, but the Nikon system is very good.
Both those cameras have virtually identical sensor size and pixel resolution so it all comes down to how the camera handles the image with processing noise.
Battery life may also be an issue. The more shots from one battery, the less spares you'll need to lug about with you.

For what you want, you're going to have to compromise on something.
You're not going to get exactly what you want for what you're willing to pay.
Any of the three cameras you've got in your final list will adequately do what you want of them.
There's really very little to choose between them.
Just make your choice and be happy with it.

I'll be interested to hear what you make of Nikon's UI and the Canon. :)

And that appears to be the crux. My incling is that overall IQ will suffer slightly to make room for speed and AF tracking i.e. 7D. But the elephant in the room is the cost difference between the Pentax/Nikon and the Canon.

I'm sure you'd probably prefer I make my own decision (and I will once I've played with both and seen what deals are on offer), but can I ask what you would do in my situation?

And Al, don't worry. I'll be straight on here as soon as I'm home ;)

Speaking as a Nikon user, I find the Canon UI awkward.
I'm sure Canon users would turn that sentence around.

You'd be quite right. We use both at work, and the Nikon feels very cluttered and overly complicated. IMHO.
