Maybe it's my untrained eye, but I think the quality of the pictures from the Canon are superior to that of the Panasonic?

To my eye the Panasonic seems to have captured a bit more detail than the Canon, but there's not a lot in it.

I'd have a look at www.dpreview.com as the shots are more scientific (in that they do shots of the same scenes)

There's really not much in it. There's slight differences in colour reproduction but it doesn't help that the shots aren't the same under the same lighting conditions.
If you're looking for a much more comprehensive comparison then there's likely one up at DPReview.

I found their scientific approach much more helpful when choosing cameras, especially comparisons of colours and ISO noise
