I think it is. Kind of. Compared to the other full frame offerings (D3s£3588/D3x£4797.99) its a price point that might make people jump from APS to full frame.

Once it's cleared I'll be in a position to get a shiny new camera.
Have you decided which camera?

I'm leaning towards the Canon EOS 50D and a Sigma 24 - 70 mm f/2.8 IF EX DG HSM lens (and possibly a nifty 50 as well).
Despite the EOS 550D coming out the 50D is, for now at least, £100 cheaper while being able to shoot at twice the frame rate. Having never used the video functions on my PowerShot G9 I'm not that bothered about the 550's HD video either.

The deed is done. I await delivery next Saturday!

I find the 550's ability to shoot 60-70fps at 720p quite interesting, but bearing in mind I haven't used the video function at all on my camera so far, maybe not interesting enough.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Meh, as I said in an earlier post, I'm not that bothered about video functions. I was more interested in the 50D's higher stills shooting rate compared to the 550D (getting on for double in RAW).

Added 13 March 2010:

Camera and other bits arrived yesterday.
Thanks to everyone for your advice.
