Hi all,

My wife accidentally recorded over our son's first birthday party with some other event.
It was actually more my fault than hers; I left it at the beginning of the tape when I always usually leave it at the right point to continue recording.
Moreover, there was some great footage of my father-in-law who died a few months later.
Only one recording was made over the original footage, not multiples.

I know the deleting magnet wiped it fairly fully, but I was wondering if there was any way to get anything back without spending a fortune and sending to data recovery specialists.
I think I already know the answer, I just figured I'd ask.

Thanks.
Diz

Sadly, the answer is no.
Any information that was held on the tape has now been rearranged into your wife's footage.
As a rule, I never reuse DV tape. It's not a terribly robust format, and it also stops accidents like this happening.
