I answer the phone and a cheery mother is on the end.

"I just bought a new telly"
"Great. Where from?"
"Currys"
"Oh right, what size is it?"
"I'm not sure. 40 or 42??"
"What model?"
"I don't know. I think it's the same as our last one" (Samsung)
"Is it HD?"
"What's that?"

I have no idea what she has bought, and neither does she by the sounds of it. Surely anything she could have bought in Curry's at that size will be HD ready though?

It was just a real facepalm moment. I stayed very calm and asked her if she liked it. She said she did, so as far as I'm concerned all is well. I won't be searching for a model number on it when I next go around, as it will no doubt bring me to tears when she tells me what she paid for it!

My parents know how bad I can get with a decent tv after I mocked the tv they got (no name and payed over the odds) so any electronics thing now they show me what they like then I tell them what to get

It's easier, I get the cashback, they get a good product... everyones happy ;)

Well I work for Currys and we haven't sold Monster leads for over three years, so if they did I am impressed.

It was a joke in reference to previous sales tactics I've seen in these shops. Maybe it was Comet with the Monster cable. Oh wait.... you're right. Currys dont sell Monster. They sell a £90 Belkin in its place!

My nan was exactly the same.

She went and bought a LCD TV from Arse-gos, and the arse behind the counter reckoned that she didn't need an aerial for it. She got home, and when it said No signal, she took it back and demanded a refund.

Needless to say, a £5 aerial later and she was sorted :D

They sold an elderly friend of mine (he is 88 and my mates grandad) some kind of AV cable with pretty casing for about £59 about three years ago, the salesman told him you needed that one for that telly, which was of course complete BS. I think one of his sons took it back and demanded a refund.

Got around the elderly-person-buying-a-tv problem by getting my dad a 42" 1080p TV for christmas last year - I figured i'd have to get the best for him to not want to upgrade it and buy something stupid!
