Basically I need something that'll fold around the battered earpads on my set of those before they get any worse - preferably made of something that isn't easily ripped or properly uncomfortable.

How old are they? They could be deemed unsuitable for the purpose that you bought them for and so you could be due a refund.

I had similar problems before I needed glasses. Probably they do not last long. They may need some fabric/leather softeners to maintain them.
