We have a Humax FreeSat PVR, and we'd like to connect it to the interwebz so we can use the various online catch-up services available now. Just a quick overview of our internet and LAN setup. We have Virgin cable arriving at the front of the house, with a switch/router feeding our "studio/office" at the back of the house via ethernet. The switch/router also has wifi which allows me to sofa surf. Is there anything to stop me setting up a second wifi router next to the PVR, and running a length of cat5 to the Freesat box? Will that even work? Or would it be safer to just run a longer cat5 from the router to the living room? |

I'm planning to use home plugs for mine, though as my connection is only 1 meg, I'm not sure it will be worth the bother! |

Home plugs are verboten in this house. Best Beloved is a radio ham, and he's dead set against them due to interference and stuff. |

Ah, of course, didn't think of that. If You have a wireless router kicking around and it can be set to be a wireless access point, I'd use that. |

CAT5 is the best method. Failing that you can use a Wireless Access Point as a wireless bridge/receiver and connect that to the box (basically using the AP in reverse). If it's not too much of a ballache I'd go with Cat5 as it's cheaper and more reliable. |
