Jon, do you still need help with this? I used to work for Allen & Heath and might possibly be able to hook you up. Long shot, but thought I'd ask...

Possibly. Anything I can do to drop the budget would be awesome. I've spent more time using a GL2200 than all other desks put together, so reasonably familiar. What were you thinking of?

Well it really depends on your budget ;-)

I could probably do you some kind of ex-staff/mates type thing, but I'd need to check in with my peeps. I presume you're still wanting to hire, not buy? Or does that depend on how much of a bargain it is?! Have you looked at the Zed range? the Zed-R is a freakin' awesome bit of kit, but possibly overkill for what you want. AFAIK, it's still the only thing that does everything it does in one box and it sounds incredible.

The Zed-R does look like a seriously impressive bit of kit, however I suspect it is going to be seriously over anything I can afford.

My current plan is to hire a Midas Venice from Stage Electrics here in Exeter. It is going to cost £40 for a weekend, and I can't really increase that amount drastically (budget not set by myself).

My real priority is to get a desk with two mid range sweep and cut/boost controls, as opposed to just some cut / boost controls at pre-set frequencies. Q is useful, but not essential for me. Currently the Venice is the cheapest way I have found of achieving that, but if there is something that you could arrange I would be very grateful.

Edit: Whilst £1700 is well out of my price range, it's a lot less than I was expecting that desk to cost. Clearly spent too long looking at Midas price lists ;)

Glad you like it :D

I tried to make some calls on your behalf today, but a couple of the people I need aren't around. One won't be until Monday, but another could be tomorrow. If you wanna got for the Midas, fair play. If you don't mind waiting a day or two, I'll look into it for you.

Stage Electrics would've been my first shout for a conventional hire, but there might be another way....

We're not doing it until the 7th August, as that's the next weekend that Caroline and myself are free, so plenty of time.

Where are you going to be doing the actual recording? Studio or somewhere else?

A huge thank you to Okenobi for getting hold of the desk for us, it made life sooo much easier (and was generally a really nice desk).
