Yes it is relevant, honest.

I'm buying a nice rack/stand/unit (call it what you will) to put my TV and AV stuff on/in. I'm down to a choice of two and thought I'd canvas opinion...

Option (a) is the ConceptDesigns Milan LCD 3 - in oak with clear glass shelves.
Option (b) is the HifiRacks Podium XL - in natural oak (i.e. the legs aren't stained).

What do peeps think? Anyone got any preferences either way?

Jon

Personally I prefer A, I think. Tricky.

I'm no help at all, I've been going dizzy to try and find an AV/TV unit that's over 55cm tall that doesn't look like tripe.

Both the companies I've mentioned can do that for hifi kit - you have to adjust the height of the shelves. if you buy say a four shelf rack and set the shelves to 200mm+, that should do the trick shouldn't it? Plus the Conceptdesign boys will sell you extra individual shelves, so theirs can be whatever height you like, provided you've got the budget. Might get a bit rickety if you've got like 8 shelves though :).

I bought one of these. http://www.ancientmarinerfurniture.co.u ... /M091.html It was the same price as a stand plus it fitted in with the rest of my furniture. The drawers are handy for keeping scart leads and games controllers in.

Definitely the second one for me. Seen them dotted around various hifi forums, really like the look of them.

Oh handy, cheers Jon. We only need to nudge it up a tad now we've got a HDTV, the old CRT was so big there was a big wadge of surround until the screen started. The GF has a bit of bother seeing the TV at the mo.

Anyways, your decision - have you decided yet?

I like the glass shelves of the first one but don't like the way they've incorporated it with the wood.

The second one's better IMO but I still hate pine furniture.

No decision yet. As you can see, there's no real consensus - this is true of the people I've asked 'offline' too. I'm currently trying to find a local dealer for them so I can have a look at both in person, see what the actual quality of workmanship & etc is.

Just had an email back from both. The nearest dealer for Hifiracks kit is 10 minutes from my house. The nearest dealer for concept designs stuff is 110 miles away /facepalm.

Why not have something custom made?

TBH, If I was faffing that much I'd make one myself. My family are actually carpenters by tradition and I picked up a few of the necessary skills as a lad. However I don't feel like putting much more effort into it than going to a shop/website and saying 'that one' to be honest.

Bit of a distraction when you've got the lights down watching a film, surely?
