Post subject:  Thoughts on this TV?

So I'm thinking of getting a new TV before the VAT goes up. My maximum budget was £500 inc. VAT

http://www.dabs.com/products/lg-electro ... -77VN.html

It ticks the 42" LED 1080p box and the description sounds good.
The DNLA sounds interesting, but that's a bonus as is the Youtube thing.
It has all the inputs I need.

On the down side, there's no HD Freeview but I can always add a box for that. It's annoying because I'd rather be box-free, but to be honest I hardly watch TV. It's mostly going to be used as a monitor for the media centre.

For £450 it sounds like a bargain to me. Any thoughts / criticisms / better alternatives or should I go for it?

Thanks :)

I got an LG this year - fantastic TV - also came with Freeview HD built-in ready for digital switchover next April.

For your budget you could consider this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-42LD490-Wide ... 096&sr=8-1

I think the main attraction of the LE4500 is the fact it's LED, so it's super-thin, efficient and has a ridiculously high contrast ratio.

The Sony was what I was looking at before, but it's "in store only" at that price and it is that bit smaller. My local branch is shut today so I wouldn't get it this year. However; it's a Sony... lol

I guess the main question really is, which one would show off a full 1080p video source to actually look the best?

I did a check on Amazon to see some reviews.

and it has freeview. The reviews are pretty good as well.

Yes it has Freeview, but not Freeview HD like the two posted by JS and Saspro.

I'm going for it anyway. I can't keep being indecisive or I'll never upgrade, let alone before the VAT rise! I'll let you know why I should have bought something else when I've had a chance to play with it

VAT increase will cost an extra £9.06 on that TV - thats two packets of cigarettes or a few pints at a pub, and probably well within the variation in prices you find from the various retailers.

Hardly going to break the bank....

It is not worth worrying about. Plus they could discount it even more in the new year when others have stopped buying.

I wish I could get 2 packs of fags or more than 2 pints for that amount of money

Well it's plumbed in and all seems good, which is just as well since Play are now offering the rather good 40" Bravia for £399 delivered

It's huge

It's also removed 2 boxes and a million wires from the front room. Or as I'll now call it, the BIG TV room.

I might get a HD Freeview recorder since they're quite reasonable now: http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/product.as ... 0&cat=stb2

There's a great 32 inch Bravia with 1080p, freeview hd and Internet for 300 quid on amazon at the moment. Got a hundred quid's worth of vouchers from my parents for Christmas too, but 32 inches is far too big for the bedroom (ooer missus!)

It's really annoying that the smaller tellys have bugger all features. Went for an lg hd ready 22 inch with regular freeview for 200 in the end.
